1. About RooMate
RooMate is an online platform designed to connect individuals relocating to Greece with shared living opportunities. RooMate facilitates introductions between users but does not own, manage, or inspect properties; act as a landlady, agent, or broker; guarantee listings, availability or outcomes; or verify all user-provided information. Users are responsible for conducting their own due diligence.
2. Eligibility
To use RooMate, you must be at least 18 years old, provide accurate and truthful information, and use the platform in good faith. RooMate reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. User Accounts
Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of login credentials, keeping profile information accurate and updated, and updating arrival dates if plans change.
Account Creation: You may sign in using your Facebook, Google, or Apple ID. If you use a third-party account, you authorize us to access certain account information as permitted by that platform.
RooMate may remove accounts that breach platform standards without prior notice or liability, and without a refund of any purchases, if you have violated this Agreement, misused the Service, or behaved in a way that RooMate regards as inappropriate or unlawful, including actions or communications that occur on or off the Service.
4. Community Rules
A zero-tolerance policy is strictly enforced to comply with Apple App Store Guidelines and ensure user safety. Users agree they will NOT:
- Impersonation: Impersonate any person or entity, or post images of another person without explicit permission.
- Harmful Conduct: Bully, stalk, intimidate, assault, harass, mistreat, or defame any person.
- Hate Speech & Offensive Content: Post hate speech, threats, sexually explicit or pornographic content, content that incites violence, or graphic violence.
- Solicitation & Fraud: Use the Service for prostitution, solicitation, human trafficking, or to obtain passwords or personal information for commercial or unlawful purposes.
- Spam: Spam, solicit money from, or defraud any members.
- Technical Attacks: Use any robot, bot, spider, scraper or similar device to access, retrieve, index or data-mine the Service or circumvent its presentation.
5. Proprietary Rights and Content
Users are solely responsible for the content posted on the platform. By posting content, the user grants RooMate, its affiliates, licensees, and successors an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, fully paid-up, worldwide right and license to (i) use, copy, store, perform, display, reproduce, record, play, adapt, modify, and distribute the Content, (ii) prepare derivative works or incorporate the Content into other works, and (iii) grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing in any media now known or hereafter created.
Any text, graphics, user interfaces, trademarks, logos, sounds, and artwork on the Service owned, controlled, or licensed by RooMate are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
6. Listings
Users posting listings confirm they have the legal right to offer the accommodation, that information provided is accurate, and that availability dates are correct. RooMate does not verify ownership or guarantee the accuracy of listings. Users engage at their own risk.
7. Messaging & Conduct
RooMate provides messaging functionality to facilitate communication. Users must not harass or abuse other users, post fraudulent listings, attempt scams, or share illegal content. RooMate may suspend or permanently remove users for misconduct.
8. Priority Subscription
RooMate may offer a paid "Priority" feature designed to increase visibility during relevant arrival periods.
Priority: Increases profile visibility; does not guarantee responses, bookings, or matches; does not remove free users from visibility.
Subscriptions: Are billed via Stripe; renew automatically unless cancelled; may be cancelled at any time. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not provide a refund for the current billing period unless required by law.
8A. Immediate Access & Waiver of Cancellation Rights
By purchasing a Priority subscription, the user expressly requests that the service begins immediately. The user acknowledges that Priority constitutes a digital service that becomes active upon purchase. By completing the purchase and confirming acceptance via the required checkbox, the user agrees that:
- The service begins immediately; and
- They waive their statutory 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
This does not affect statutory rights in cases of technical fault, billing error, or service failure.
9. Payments
Payments are processed securely via Stripe. RooMate does not store full credit card details. Users are responsible for providing accurate billing information and cancelling subscriptions before renewal if desired.
10. Refunds
Refunds are generally not provided once the subscription period has begun. Refunds may be considered in cases of duplicate payment, accidental double charge, technical failure preventing activation, or billing errors. Refund requests must be submitted within 7–14 days of the charge. Priority does not guarantee outcomes.
11. Intellectual Property
All platform content, branding, design, database structure, and system logic are the property of RooMate. Users may not copy, reverse engineer, replicate, or commercially exploit any part of the platform.
12. Limitation of Liability
RooMate acts solely as a platform facilitating introductions. RooMate is not liable for property condition, financial loss, disputes between users, or misrepresentation by other users. Users engage with others at their own discretion and risk.
13. Location-based Services and Push Notifications
RooMate may provide push notifications, emails, text messages, alerts, and other messages related to the App and/or services, such as enhancements, offers, products, events, and promotions. After downloading the App, you will be asked to accept or deny push notifications. If you deny, you will not receive certain notifications.
The App may make available opportunities to view content based on your location, determined using GPS, Bluetooth, and/or other software within your mobile device. If you disable location services, you may not be able to use certain features.
14. Reporting Violations and EU DSA Compliance
RooMate provides an in-app reporting mechanism allowing users to notify us of illegal content or violations of our Community Rules. RooMate will endeavour to review all reports and take appropriate action (including removing content or suspending users) within 24 hours of receiving a valid report, in compliance with Apple App Store safety guidelines.
Users may block any user at any time to prevent contact or profile viewing. For authorities and users under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), our designated point of contact is info@theroomateapp.com.
15. Termination
RooMate may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent behaviour, or attempt to manipulate the subscription system.
16. Changes to Terms
RooMate may update these Terms periodically. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.
17. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales.
