We Just Updated Our FAQs -Here's Everything That Changed
Trust doesn't come from a perfect platform. It comes from a platform that tells you the truth, even when the truth is "we're still figuring this part out." This week we went through our FAQ page line by line and rewrote what needed rewriting - not because something was wrong, but because we could say it more clearly, more honestly, and with more of the specifics you actually deserve to know before you sign up.

We believe an FAQ page should be a living document, not something written once and forgotten. As RooMate grows, our answers need to keep pace with what's actually true. Here's what changed this week, word for word.
Where we actually are now
Is RooMate available outside Athens?
RooMate started in Athens and has already expanded across Greece. We're now expanding internationally, starting with Paris -with more cities, including London, planned over time.
How your ID is actually handled
How are landladies verified?
Landladies go through the same government ID verification process as everyone else on RooMate -a quick check of their passport or national ID through our verification partner, iDenfy, and it's not stored long-term. See "How is my data protected?" for full details.
And in our full data protection answer, we added the number that matters most:
iDenfy retains the document itself for up to 12 months under our current account terms with them, after which it is automatically deleted from their systems.
We'd rather give you the real number than a vague reassurance.
How pricing actually works right now
Why do renters pay for messaging but landladies don't?
We're testing our pricing model as RooMate grows, and it may keep changing. Right now, unlimited messaging is free for landladies, and renters get a limited number of free messages before unlocking unlimited access for €1.99/month. This helps us keep the platform running while everything else -verification, safety checks, browsing -stays free for everyone. We'll always update this FAQ and notify members directly if this changes.
A real milestone

Why we're telling you all of this
Nobody reads an FAQ page for fun. You read it when you're deciding whether to trust something with your safety, your money, or both. Every answer above exists because a specific, honest answer is worth more to you than a comfortable, vague one.
Safety was never just about the big, loud promises. It's in the details nobody thinks to ask about, until they do.
