What 320+ members taught us
RooMate is now open in London and Paris. We’ve passed 320 members. Here’s what you’ve honestly taught me -and where we go from here.

RooMate is now open in London and Paris, and we’ve passed 320 members. Thank you. I want to tell you honestly what you’ve taught me.
What we’ve learned
People tell you where to go. Nobody told me to open Thessaloniki. Women kept asking in our Instagram comments and DMs whether RooMate was there, so we opened it. If you want RooMate in your city, say so.
People want to choose. What members respond to most is seeing who fits, and knowing nothing happens until everyone says yes. Landladies stay anonymous until they say yes.
Trust is built in small steps. A fuller profile, a clear next step and a straight answer about what things cost go a long way. One of our first landladies called the ID check “such a cool feature to have on your website.”
The ID step needs care, and I’m keeping it. Some people have stopped at it, and I’ve seen that. I won’t remove it, because trust should go both ways. I’m working to make it feel simple and well timed. I take feedback calmly: when something stings I wait 24 hours, then I act.
Early alerts matter. Being told the moment a new room is listed in your area is one of the most useful things we offer while we’re new.
People want a human. That’s why there’s a short founder call and a “Spoke with the founder” badge, which only appears after we’ve actually spoken.
What we’re still working on
We’re a young platform. Some areas have more rooms than others, and there’s a lot I want to build better. I’d rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
What comes next
More rooms, more landladies, and clearer ways to report and give feedback. Our goal is 1,000 members by 31 December. If you’re a member, tell me what’s missing. If you’re not yet, signing up is free.
